Oil on Canvas – Memory and Action
Hadassah Tzuk z"l was an artist at heart, a geneticist, and a piano teacher. For her, painting was a place of quiet and peace. Her home's walls were adorned with her works, and over the years she held exhibitions and sold her paintings.
Hadassah passed away in April 2025, a year and a half after her grandson, Major Roi Chappel z"l, fell in the October 7 battles.
The bond between Grandmother Hadassah and Roi was special. They both loved food, and would meet by the refrigerator at night, sharing the everyday and soothing their souls with a good slice of cake.
Roi was a people-person – a son, a brother, a partner, a grandson, a friend, and a commander. Integrity, responsibility, generosity, and joy in life accompanied him. He knew how to see those in front of him, to listen, to believe in people, and not to give up on them even when things were difficult.
In 2024, a foundation was established in his name, born from a desire to transform his values into action that would impact Israeli society. The foundation works primarily in education, and is currently developing a school program that combines principles from CBT with Roi's values, to provide teenagers with tools for coping and making choices.
Within all of this are Grandmother Hadassah's paintings. Through this exhibition, two stories meet: her creations become part of a larger purpose.
All proceeds from the sale of the paintings will be donated to the foundation named after Major Roi Chappel, supporting its educational and values-based work.
Those who choose to take one of Grandmother Hadassah's paintings with them take a piece of a family's story – and in doing so, make it possible for Roi's story to continue reaching others.
